TOKYO, 17 February 2015—A 6.9-magnitude quake hit offshore in Sanriku, Miyagi Prefecture in northeastern Japan at 8:06 AM (local time), resulting in a tsunami warning for the country’s northeastern coastal areas, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said Tuesday.
The epicenter was initially determined at 39.9 degrees north latitude, 144.5 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
A warning for a one-meter tsunami was issued for the coast of Japan’s northeastern Iwate Prefecture. Injuries and damages are not immediately known. (Xinhua)
